Bab Agnaou

Bab Agnaou is one of the most important historic gates of Marrakech and a major example of Almohad monumental architecture. Built in the late 12th century during the reign of the Almohad caliph Ya'qub al-Mansur, it served as the principal ceremonial entrance to the royal Kasbah. Unlike many defensive gates in the city walls, Bab Agnaou had an important representative and symbolic role. Its stone façade is distinguished by a large horseshoe arch surrounded by carved geometric and vegetal decoration and a Quranic inscription.
