Embark on a challenging yet rewarding trek through the High Atlas Mountains. This multi-day journey takes you through stunning landscapes, traditional Berber villages, and up to the refuge at the base of Mount Toubkal, North Africa’s highest peak.
Take a shared taxi from Marrakech to Imlil. The fare is typically for a seat (1/6 of the taxi). Note that shared taxis may be less frequent in the evening.
You should wait for the shared taxi to fill (6 places). Depart early to ensure availability.
Make the necessary preparations and bookings before starting the Toubkal hike. It is recommended to book your guide and refuge several days before arriving in Imlil.
Book a mountain guide. A certified guide is mandatory to enter the Toubkal National Park.
Book your night in refuge, and meals from restaurant and refuge. The guide can help with that.
Double-check your required hiking gear with the guide, and buy or rent any missing items from the shops in the village center.
Spend Friday night in Imlil to acclimatize. You can stay in the village center or continue on foot to the village of Armed, where the Toubkal hike begins. Enjoy the local hospitality and get some rest before the hike.
Wake up and enjoy a hearty breakfast at your hotel or in the village.
Begin your trek passing through Aroumd village. Check in at the Toubkal National Park Gendarmerie post.
Continue the ascent towards the Sidi Chamharouch shrine.
Take a rest at the shrine. You can buy refreshments here.
Continue hiking to the refuge. Have dinner and get a good night's sleep.
Wake up early (around 4 AM) to start the climb to the summit.
Headlamp required.
Reach the summit (4167m) in time for a breathtaking sunrise.
Descend back to the refuge for a well-deserved break and lunch.
Descend through Aroumd back to Imlil.
If you're tired, spend another night in Imlil, enjoy nature, or do some shopping for local crafts.
